Bury Your Gays is Chuck Tingle's 2024 horror novel, a fast, funny, genuinely frightening story about what the entertainment industry asks queer people to trade away for a seat at the table. Misha Byrne has spent decades clawing toward success in Hollywood, and he finally has an Oscar nomination to show for it, when studio executives hand him an ultimatum: kill off the queer leads of his long running series in the season finale, because the algorithm says so. Misha refuses, and almost immediately the monsters he invented for his early horror projects start turning up in the hills above Los Angeles, stalking him and the people he loves. The scares land because they are personal. One of those creatures was modeled on someone who hurt him as a child, and the book is as interested in the past Misha buried to get here as it is in the one chasing him now. Bury Your Gays is a gleeful, gory takedown of a tired trope, and underneath the blood it is a story about a man deciding, finally, that some things are not worth surviving.

A note before you pick it up: this is horror, and it earns the label. The book includes graphic violence and body horror, and it deals directly with childhood sexual abuse. Come prepared, and know that you are welcome to step out of the conversation at any point.
